work. let's check in with brianne carter on the congested roads. how we compare with congested roads around the country. >> good morning. it's usually good news to be number one when the cities are ranked across the country, but not necessarily when talking about traffic and congestion. people in our region know what it's like to sit in backups. we may have it the worst across the country. a new report this morning says that d.c. topless of most congested cities across the country. this comes from the texas a&m traffic institute. d.c. ranks among the most congested on the top of the list, ahead of los angeles san francisco, new york, and boston. also listed in the study is how much it is costing driver is to sit in the back up. claude perrault cost americans $121 billion in time and fuel

>> you are watching abc 7's "good morning washington" with cynne simpson and scott thuman. this is "good morning washington," on your side. >> a 5-year-old alabama boy has spent nearly a week in an underground bunker, but now reunited with his mother. it's he is said to be doing ok. authorities stormed the bunker on monday after negotiations with suspect jimmy lee dykes deteriorated and he was seen holding a gun. he was killed.

he kidnapped the boy last week after he shot and killed a school bus driver. the child's 6 the birthday of small. it's homeland security secretary janet napolitano will spend another day inspecting the u.s. border with mexico. she will visit el paso, texas today. she talked about what she calls dramatic improvements in border security. she says big investments in border enforcement have led to a huge drop in the flow of illegal immigrants and the lack of violence in major border cities. the senate has approved a bill to increase security at u.s. embassies and diplomatic missions worldwide. the legislation comes in the wake of last september's attack in benghazi, libya, but killed u.s. ambassador chris stevens and three other americans. the extra security will be paid for with surplus funds no longer needed in iraq. the bill now heads to the house. this is always different topic. if you're on a long

week for an average of $3.54 a gallon. americans spend 4% of our income, more than $2,900 a year, that's the most in four years. banks are loosening their standards and lowering interest rates for businesses and real estate developers in the hopes of generating more loans. it is a sign the economy is improving. the flue was good for clorox, thanks to install a sales for disinfectants and other such products. canada's decision to stop making pennies has people wondering how much longer the one sent u.s. corn will last. if it is costing the government more than a penny these days to make a penny. that's america's money.

>> welcome back. looking at the trayvon martin shooting. his accused killer george zimmerman appears in court today. he is asking for a trial delay as well as additional records that his lawyers say they must have before the trial. today would've been trayvon martin's 18th birthday. several events are planned in florida to honor him. people gathered this afternoon for an event called banding together for peace against gun violence. >> a developing story in japan. investigators have found a connection between two incidents that led to the grounding of all boeing 787 dreamliner. investigators say they have

found the same type of chemical reaction in the batteries that overheated on planes in boston and japan last month. this comes as boeing has asked the federal aviation administration for permission to conduct test flights of the 787 aircraft. >> the u.s. military is lifting its ban on the afghan airlines that was blacklisted after allegations it was being used for drug smuggling. the military says it will continue to allow the company to work on u.s. military contracts while the afghan government conducts its inquiry. suspension came after the u.s. military found evidence last month that obm was being smuggled on the flights. >> we know what caused an explosion that heavily damaged the headquarters of mexico's state oil company. a gas buildup ignited by an electrical spark or other heat source sparked last week's blast in mexico city. 37 people died and dozens of others were hurt. investigators don't know what
